A practical and beautiful transformation of a sloped garden into levelled, functional zones for family enjoyment.

Full Garden Makeover

The Brief

To transform a sloped and muddy garden into a multi-level, family-friendly environment with space to play, relax, and entertain. Safety, drainage, and accessibility were top concerns, alongside keeping the overall feel soft and natural.

Overview

The client’s garden was on a steep incline, making it difficult to use for children or entertaining. We redesigned the space into a series of terraced levels that added structure and usability, including a play zone, open lawn, and a small raised dining area with planting borders.

Research & Discovery

Initial consultation focused on space efficiency and style. We measured light patterns throughout the day to determine the best planting zones and materials. The client emphasized clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic, so we studied architectural influences and existing paving to create a cohesive design language.

Solution

We excavated and retained multiple tiers using natural stone and railway sleepers. Artificial turf was laid in the central play area for durability and safety, and wide steps with balustrades linked the levels. Native planting added life and colour, and bark mulch paths kept the look organic.

“The transformation is amazing — the kids can play safely, and we finally have areas to enjoy and unwind as a family. It’s changed how we use our garden completely.”
